Ormond Beach is known for its exceptional quality of life. It is also known as the Birthplace of Speed. Automobile racing began on the wide, smooth beaches of Ormond Beach in 1903, which led to many land-speed records, beach races in nearby Daytona Beach, and the founding of NASCAR.
Ormond by the Sea is a half hour south of historic St. Augustine, and one hour from Orlando and the Kennedy Space Center. The scenic Tomoka State Park, located just three miles north of Ormond Beach is perfect for fishing, boating, hiking and camping. It is the site of a Timucuan Indian settlement discovered in 1605 by Spanish explorers. There are walking and biking paths in the park, wooded campsites and guided canoe tours along the Tomoka and Halifax Rivers.
