The United States of America (commonly referred to as the United States, the U.S., the USA, or America) is a federal constitutional republic comprising fifty states and a federal district. The country is situated mostly in central North America, where its forty-eight contiguous states and Washington, D.C., the capital district, lie between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. The state of Alaska is in the northwest of the continent, with Canada to its east and Russia to the west across the Bering Strait. The state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific. The country also possesses several territories, or insular areas, scattered around the Caribbean and Pacific.

The most exciting two minutes in sports take place on the first Saturday in May in the lovely, semi southern city of Louisville! Hats are worn, juleps are drunk, bets are laid and the entire city is jammed with parties and balls of every description and level of formality. Celebrities flock to the scene for the annual bit of glamour that lights up Louisville. The city is graced with a spectacular Olmstead designed park system and two stunning historic preservation districts that hold the country's largest concentration of Victorian housing. Fine dining, fun clubs and cool cafes line the Bardstown road corridor and the downtown area.

Most of the United States experiences four seasons. Winter is generally from November thru March. However in some areas like Minnesota and the New England States, cold weather can start earlier and stick around till mid April.
