Kona, Hawaii Offers Tropical Holiday Homes

Kona is a district located on the island of Hawaii. When people talk of Kona, they sometimes mean the large resort town of Kailua-Kona, which each October plays host to the Ironman World Championship Triathlon event. Many beautiful Kona vacation rentals

are located here, but there are also a number of smaller towns in Kona including Honalo, Honaunau, and Kealakekua.

Visitors to Kona can enjoy the nearby Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park, which is just 12 miles outside the resort town. The park is best known for being the place where Captain James Cook first landed on Hawaii. Later the same year, it was to be the site of his murder; a monument complete with authentic British cannon marks the approximate spot where he was stabbed. Those who wish to see the monument must hike up a steep trail. Other historical points of interest in the park include archeological sites such as ancient Hawaiian temples.

Kealakekua Bay also serves as a marine life conservation district, making it an ideal destination for snorkelers and scuba divers who want a close look at the local fish and sea plant species inhabiting the large coral reef structures offshore. Kayaking is another popular activity in the bay; the best time to go is in the morning when the Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins are most likely to be active. These dolphins use the bay to rest and feed after mothers give birth to their calves.

The Kona Coast is on the sunny side of the island of Hawai'i. Our property is about 2.5 miles south of town, right on the beach.
