It's not surprising Edinburgh is one of the world's great city vacation destinations. It's a small walkable city with Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, the Old Town, the New Town (18th century), Arthur's seat and the Scottish Parliament. Home and inspiration for authors and thinkers as diverse as JK Rowling (Harry Potter), Ian Rankin (Rebus), Adam Smith (Wealth of Nations), Robert Louis Stevenson (Kidnapped, Treasure Island), Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes). Summer is festival time with festival for everything from film and TV to Jazz and books as well as the world famous International Arts festival and it's much bigger (and noisier) off-shoot - the Fringe.
