Clermont, Florida: An Animal Lover's Paradise

The Amazing Exotics Education Center allows visitors to observe and learn about more than 300 different animals, many of them representatives of endangered species. For a more prosaic activity, try Uncle Donald's Farm, where barnyard animals are on display 12 months a year.

Seeing animals in captivity does not always captivate the animal lover in some of us, however, but Lake County makes the grade here too. Rich in lush tropical wetlands that house dozens of different native species of fish, fowl, and wildlife, Lake County caters to visitors by offering a "wetlands and wildlife" tour in an authentic Wildcat Super Truck. Other activities include butterfly walks where visitors are guided to prime locations for these elusive creatures.

When you have seen enough animals, other attractions beckon. Wine tasting is available at the Lakeridge Winery Vineyards. Tours of the winery, one of the few in the state of Florida, are also available. An even more unique attraction is the Florida Carriage Museum, where tourists can walk back in time as they get a close look at a collection of horse-drawn carriages from days gone by. This collection is actually the largest of its kind anywhere in the United States.
