Sunny and south facing, the villa is beautifully appointed with a mix of antique and modern pieces. Lagos is the best liked of all the Algarve towns being lively it as well as laid back. It boasts 5 blue flag beaches, Meia Praia, Batata and Dona Ana, to mention the closest. The historic castle walls date from the 13 century and the beautiful "golden" church of Santo Antonio should not be missed because it is a masterpiece of gilded carvings. Many sea sport activities are available including windsurfing, sailing, boat trips, deep sea diving, fishing and those unforgettable boat trips around the caves.
Golf
Parque Da Floresta Golf
Just 15 minutes beyond the historic town of Lagos, this is the most westerly of the Algarve courses. The land here is totally different; hilly and with cistus bushes as far as the eye can see. In early spring the area is blanketed with white flowers. The resort offers not only golf, but also archery, bowls, horse riding, mountain biking, tennis and of course, Spa Floresta the fabulous new health & beauty spa.
Boavista may be one of the newest courses but it is a real cracker. Set overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the historic town of Lagos, and inland to the Monchique hills, Quinta da Boavista In addition to the 18-hole championship golf course and driving range, there is a teaching academy. It's a benevolent start. The opening hole gently slopes away downhill and a generous fairway instils a sense of well-being. The panorama adds to this feeling with views over lakes and tumbling waterfalls. Sounds wonderful but this is no time to be bemused; remember this is all part of the golf course designer's art.
Palmares
spectacular views out over the Bay of Lagos, Palmares is noted for its breathtaking scenery and splendid views across the bay of Lagos. The course has a pleasing mixture of woodland and links holes, with the upper holes winding through groves of almond and fig trees.
Penina
The Championship Course is the masterpiece of Sir Henry Cotton and that by which he wished to be remembered. 'The Penina' as it is reverentially known, was originally laid out on land used from growing rice. Eucalyptus trees re now here in abundance. The course has been carefully upgraded over recent years. If recognition were needed, the decision to hold the Portuguese Open here in 1998 and again in 1999, must surely be recognition enough.
