Property Details

The Aster House Apartments has been a legitimate business since 1982 (30+ years!), and we've had several tenants stay as long as 9 years, so you may be assured of a secure and comfortable stay.

NEIGHBORHOOD: Aster House is centrally located on a quiet residential street one block from DePaul University in Lincoln Park, Chicago's most upscale (and safe!) downtown neighborhood.

~Within 1/2 to 2 blocks are many restaurants, cafes, pizzerias, sports bars, bakeries, fine shops, resale shops, kids stores, theatres, art galleries, museums, music venues, the post office, the library, dry cleaners, a park with free tennis courts and playground, local ice cream shops, three Starbucks, day spas, hair and nail salons, barbers, DePaul University, a late-night pharmacy, a WiFi cafe for laptop repair, and for any jet-lag or late nights there's a 24-hour grocery and 24-hour restaurant.

~ It's only 4 - 8 blocks to an 11-theatre movie theatre, two comedy clubs, the city park, two farmers' markets from May 1 - Oct 31, the year-round free city zoo and botanical gardens, the lake/Fullerton beach with its 18-mile biking/running path and necessities such as Home Depot, Best Buy,Target, Whole Foods, Barnes & Noble, etc.

TRANSPORTATION: We're 1/2 to 1 block from the Fullerton subway/el station (Red, Brown and Purple lines), frequent taxicabs and several buses to reach all the rest of the city's attractions. For instance, Wrigley Field is just 10 blocks up the street -- a fun walk or quick subway ride almost door to door. The Mag Mile, Navy Pier or The Loop are about a 4- 6 minute subway/el ride.

For further trips, we are one mile from Lakeshore Drive and one mile from Routes 90 and 94.

The HOUSE: Built in 1891, Aster House has a back yard, a covered verandah with rockers and a large sun deck with umbrella table for six, chaises, chairs and a grill. The house itself also is quite large, and you would share it with the owners (us!) who have an apartment upstairs and one other unit, when occupied.

*Elizabeth's Place* is a few steps from street level and all on one floor. It has an antique-filled living room with ten-foot ceilings, hardwood oak floors, cable 27" television and VCR player and video library, a formal dining room with new tilt-in windows and dining set that seats twelve, a book-filled study with stereo, bathroom with shower over clawfoot tub, two phone extensions with answering machine, kitchen with new tilt-in windows, dining for four, lots of storage and first-rate appliances, e.g. Sub Zero refrigerator, dish washer, Corian counters and sink, Pergo floors, microwave, coffee maker and a back door directly to the verandah and back yard. There are two storage areas to stash luggage, off-season clothes, etc. For sleeping, there is one bedroom with a queen bed, wall-to-wall carpeting and new frosted windows (for light with privacy), The second bedroom has hardwood oak floors with a full bed, desk/dresser and area rug. There's a deluxe full-size futon bed in the study with a desk, chest and deep closet.

*Alice's Annex* is a complete garden apartment, all on one level and just five steps from street level. It offers a living room with Pergo floors, sofa, love seat, television, a study with large oak desk and generous book shelves, dining nook with table and chairs to seat 4 -5 with tilt-in picture window, kitchenette with microwave and toaster oven and coffee maker, sitting area with love seat and cable 27" television and VCR and video library, tilt-in windows, stereo with in-wall speakers, bathroom with shower over tub and linen shelves, complimentary personal full-size front load washer and dryer, two phone extensions with answering machine to be hooked up by tenant, and private entrance. For sleeping there is a queen bed in the bed room with its wall-to-wall carpeting, dresser, armoire, night stands and hutch. There also is a single bed in a sleeping nook off the living room as a possible second sleeping area, and the living room's sofa is queen-size sleeper.

. All cookware, dishes, irons, ironing boards, hair dryers, bed linens, towels, etc -- just bring your toothbrushes!

Please note we are strictly non-smoking, though ashtrays are provided on the sundeck and verandah. And so sorry, but no pets.

50% deposit required to hold stays if less than 3 months stay.
