Hague Lake Heights sits just a stone throw back from Hague lake shore, a gorgeous, warm, clear body of water in the middle of Cortes Island. It is nestled among tall trees yet it is as close as the “downtown Manson''s” as it can be. This area is so called for the two Manson brothers that homesteaded here. Our property is very close to the original business spot of Mike Manson who ran a store at Manson''s Lagoon.

The cottage is only a short walk away from Hague Lake and it can be reached by a path at the bottom of the road. The tall shore vegetation is there to protect and attract birds and water fowl to this habitat. Sandy Beach provincial day park is a few steps away on the left. This is a beautiful, public, sandy beach with a shallow water approach to the lake. Further along the beach there is a clothes optional area as well. At the entrance of Sandy Beach Day Park there is also a public access to the Manson Lagoon Park, a marine paradise full of life ready to be discovered. Children and adults alike will delight in discovering this pristine marine jewel where you can go for long or short walks, sit on the beach, watch marine fowl and still gather seafood (license required) for dinner.

Unfortunately, Brambly Hedge is not accessible to people with limited mobility.

FACILITIES:
Hague Lake Heights is a bright custom built cottage, completely renovated in 2012. It offers a Living/ Dinning room combination with a full functioning kitchen, electrical stove, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, washer and dryer, toaster and coffee maker; TV and CD and DVD player; WIFI and cellular phone reception is good, but is sometimes a bit unpredictable. Cell phones work on the property but only sporadically on the island.

Water to the cottage comes from a communal system. It is safe for consumption. We have installed a UV and particles filtering system and the water is tested at the beginning of every Summer. There are 2 bathrooms, one is a 3 piece bathroom, laundry facility and one bedroom (queen size bed) on the main floor. We also have a wood burning stove for off season cooler days. Use of it can be arranged.

A large deck is accessible from the living room area through glass patio doors. Here is the barbeque and furniture for al fresco dining.

SLEEPING:
3 bedrooms [one with queen bed and the other with a double] and a full, semi-ensuite bathroom upstairs. The bedrooms have their own little private decks for privacy and quiet retreat.

OTHER AMENITIES:
The property is small and the cottage sits on the side of a hill. There is a fairly steep driveway and ample parking for 2 cars by the front door. The flat area in front of the cottage is set up for badminton games and there are board games inside for evening enjoyment.

Protection and stewardship of the environment is taken most seriously on this island. To do our part we have tried to keep the grounds as close as natural as possible. There is a great deal of wild life milling about, some forms are harder to see than others, but none the less they are here and are an important element in our property. We have had barn and violet green swallows living with us and tree frogs as well.

IN THE AREA:
We are located in the heart of Manson''s Landing; the centre of the island. On Cortes there are several restaurants:
*The co-op café
*the Float house
*The Cove
*Hollyhock (vegetarian)
*Cortes Island Café and Trude''s

In the summer there is a fast food shack on the parking lot of Cortes Island Market.
The hub of the island is Manson''s Hall on Sutil point Rd. and notices are posted there.
Dances are held often in the summer.
The Hall has a post office. It is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and has wireless access.
There is also the Cortes Island café, open for lunch on the same schedule.
Cortes Island has a medical clinic and enjoys the service of a doctor and a nurse practitioner.
Local information flyers can be picked up at the post office and they come out every Friday.
VIDEOS and DVD can be rented from the Cortes Island Market and from Squirrel Cove Market.
There is also a public library that is part of the Vancouver Island Regional system. It is open on Monday/ Wednesday/ Fridays 1:00 to 4:00. Due to recent developments, the location has yet to be finalized. There is also a book store and a “woolly” store.

GALLERIES:
Several local artists show their art in galleries and studios across the island. The Old School House Gallery has temporary exhibits especially in the Summer time. Off island musicians also visit our shores and give great concerts from time to time. There is a great local craft store in Squirrel Cove

SWIMMING:
Both, Gunflint Lake and Hague lake are a source of drinking water, no bathing in the lake.

FISHING:
Fishing licences are available at the Cortes Island Market. There are many trout in the lake. You need a licence to collect oysters and clams on the beaches as well.

HIKING/ BIKING:
Don''t leave your bike behind, Cortes Island offers great opportunity for biking as well as hiking. Kwas Park entrance across the motel has a great network of trails for you to explore. There are more public hikes through Linnaea Farm (on Seaford Rd.) and they can lead you to Easter Bluff. This is a more challenging hike.

Pets:
The owner of the Hague Lake Heights will consider a small well-behaved, fully house trained dog under proper supervision - Please refer to the Pet Policy found in the "Guests" section/heading above, for further information.

end of June to after Labour Day: $1450wk [1-4 guests]
May/June/September [after Labour Day]:$1100/wk [1-4 guests]
October to April: $850/wk [1-4 guests]

Rates are for 1-4 guests, the 5th & 6th guests are $25/nt each

Cancellation Policy

If the Renter cancels a confirmed rental, the Renter is liable for the full rental payment, booking fee and accommodation tax. If Great Spots! re-rents the Property, Great Spots! will refund to the Renter the lesser of (i) the rental payment received on the re-rental of the Property or (ii) the rental payment paid by the Renter, less a cancellation fee of 15% of the rental payment. Great Spots! will return the accommodation tax and the security deposit (if applicable) in either event. No credit or refund is issued should the Renter arrive late or depart early.

Travel Insurance is available at 7% of your total and offered through Travel Guard All Seasons Travel Insurance. Deposit Policy

You are welcome to pay by Personal Cheque [Canadian only and must be certified if reservation is to start within 3 weeks of making your reservation], Interac e-Transfer, Money Order, Visa, MasterCard, American Express [3% credit card fee applies if choosing credit card payment option].

The following is required to confirm your reservation:

(a) for bookings made more than 6 weeks before the start of the rental, the following is required:
40% of the total is due at time of booking;
The balance is due 6 weeks before the start of the rental - if paying by cheque, please post-date balance payment accordingly;

You have 5 days from the date of booking to confirm your reservation. If we have not received your fully executed booking agreement and all required payments within that time, we will release the property for rental to others.

(b) for bookings made less than 6 weeks before the start of the rental:
Payment in full is required [if paying by cheque, please use current date]

If the rental is to begin within 3 weeks of the date you make your reservation with Great Spots!, full payment is due at the time of reserving, only Interac e-Transfer, Money Order, Certified Cheque [Canadian only], or Credit Card payment accepted [3% credit card fee applies to credit card payment option] thank you.
