Cova de Santa Cruz is a self catering apartment/cave available for daily, weekend or weekly lets. It is situated in the old town of Alicante, in the famous barrio of Santa Cruz at the foot of the Santa Bárbara castle and close to the beach.
The apartment is the ground floor of an old townhouse and has its own front door opening onto the pedestrian street, allowing you to sit outside to eat or relax. The bedroom is a cave in the rock, which is thought to have been the original dwelling on the site. It provides cooler temperatures in summer and warmer in winter. It also has a mini cave to one side, which makes a perfect spot for reading or listening to music. The bathroom is modern and well designed, with a large shower unit and everything you will need to make your stay more comfortable (towels, gel. soap, hairdryer etc.).
The kitchen is also well equipped and just right for typical holiday cooking. You will find a welcome pack of local food and drink and basic supplies to get you started. The living room has a comfortable sofa, TV and a selection of reading material, games and tourist information. We had the light traveller in mind when designing the apartment so we have provided an iron and ironing board, towels, beach stuff…. There is also Wi Fi and the TV can be used in the living room or the cave along with the selection of films provided
Please let us know if there is anything else we can provide to make your stay more enjoyable.
Santa Cruz is one of the smallest but most traditional and charming of the barrios that make up the historic centre of Alicante. It is situated at the foot of the Benacantil mountain, which is topped by the Santa Bárbara castle. Despite being in the centre of Alicante, most of its streets are pedestrian and steeply stepped and are flanked by whitewashed houses decorated with brightly coloured potted plants, giving the barrio the air of a village. Santa Cruz is especially well known for its Easter procession on the Wednesday of Holy week, when the barrio becomes an important part of Alicante cultural life.
Close to Postiguet beach (10 minutes walking), the Santa Bárbara castle or the Central Market (5 minutes walking); the apartment is also near the shopping areas and the tram station. Alicante airport can be reached by car in 15 minutes.
Alicante has a little over 300,000 inhabitants and enjoys the amenities of a city without the inconveniences of a large metropolis. As a tourist destination it offers beaches, both in the city itself and the surrounding area, cultural activities (live music, galleries, museums, historical buildings, theatre, cinema, etc.), shops, restaurants and a good night life. It is also within easy reach of other interesting places such as the mountainous interior of the region.
The climate is generally warm and sunny although there can be cold days during the short winter.
The city is the starting point of a train/tram line known as “el trenet”, which runs north up the coast to places such as Playa San Juan, Campello, Villajoyosa, Benidorm or Altea.
Please let us know if you have any other favourite activities, we would be happy to help if we can.
