Villa Agung Khalia consists of one new 3-bedroom and one new 6-bedroom private villa set amongst terraced rice fields on the outskirts of Ubud.
The villa was developed as a joint partnership between the family of Prof. Darren Leaver and Anak Agung Gede Agung (Agung for short), a village leader from the Pejeng area of Ubud, as an opportunity to provide long-range commercial opportunities for Agung’s family and the surrounding village of Banjar Sala. The Leaver family procured the funding for the property purchase and development. They then worked with local architects to create a design that blends traditional Balinese styling with the desire for tropical outdoor living. There is a purposeful design for a cool fresh air flow throughout the villa by using vents at strategic points, all of which are screened to prevent mosquitoes from entering.
The construction process took one year to complete, during which we insisted on using laborers from the local village including those that formerly worked the land on which the villa was built.
Now complete, Villa Agung Khalia uses only local labor, with a commitment to helping support the local community banjar, and a profit-sharing program that will benefit the villa workers first and foremost. All payments made stay in Bali for the benefit of the villa staff and the surrounding banjar.
The 3-bed villa can sleep up to 7 guests, and the 6-bed villa can sleep up to to 14, so we can accommodate 2 to 21 guests with comfort and privacy.
This brand-new, spacious villa complex offers the peace and tranquility of the 'real' Bali yet is less than 10 minutes drive from Ubud's cultural performances, shops, museums and gourmet restaurants. For a relaxing stay 'away from it all' enjoy a morning cup of coffee on your balcony as the sun lights up Gunung Agung, read a novel in your poolside gazebo, or explore the daily life of the Balinese in the nearby villages.
For those wishing to stay connected you have free broadband wireless and satellite TV with international channels like BBC, ESPN, CNN, Discovery, and Cartoon Network.
Each villa building has 3 bedrooms (the 6-bed villa has two buildings), all with private bathrooms attached. An additional day-bed is located in the upstairs reading area, and a half-bathroom is located next to the downstairs living room. There is a full kitchen, an outside dining area for 4, and a traditional inside dining area for 6 to 8 guests. Pool towels and chaise lounge chairs are available poolside.
There are overhead fans in every bedroom, living area and balcony. There are carved, open vents above each window that allow for a natural flow of air throughout the villa, yet the window and door screens keep out the unwanted insects that are common in other outdoor living villas. Our 24-hour staff are here to meet all of your vacation needs.

Rates do not include 18% tax/service or airport transfer ($22 per taxi). Rates are for up to 4 guests. Additional adults at $15 per night. Rates include daily cooked breakfast, broadband wireless internet, international TV, shuttle service into central Ubud as needed, 24-hour service and security. Min. 3-night stay. Free airport taxi transfers for 7-night bookings.
