Imagine your dream getaway; being in a gated village nestled with dozens of other 2-story colorful villas surrounding a 5000-square-foot pool w/an attached tiki bar and grill... now imagine this resort hidden on Florida's western-most barrier island.
History? Perdido Key was discovered by the Spanish in the 15th century and literally translates as "Lost Island." Sixty-five percent of Perdido Key is protected from development by state and federal parks. Johnson Beach - part of the federal national seashore - is only one-fourth mile from the Purple Parrot Resort, allowing access to some of the whitest beaches in the world, and certainly some of the most beautiful sunsets!
You will learn a local's secret; because the Park Service charges $8 for daily access, few tourists come to this particular beach. But, get a YEARLY pass for $25, and you will feel like the beer commercial - nearly alone with miles and miles of undisturbed and quiet paradise! On a strict budget? Further on down Perdido Key Drive is the Florida State Park - free beach access to the same beautiful beaches!
Daytime Activities? Just bring your golf clubs, beach towels, or scuba gear and enjoy the many attractions of the Perdido Key area. There are specific activities for all seasons here in this "lost" paradise! The world-famous Blue Angels are based here at Pensacola Naval Air Station only a few miles away, and you can watch them practicing overhead many times a year.
Your home-away-from-home? Your villa is one of about 100 villas in the resort (none over two stories tall), and comes fully furnished. It includes all the amenities listed below. The villa is a gated community, and also features a waterfall cave, an island jacuzzi, a bar and grill, an indoor pool, sauna, and hot tub (for the winter months), and a workout room.
Looking for some nighttime activity? The village is close to several local nightspots, including the world-famous Florabama! The nightspots of Pensacola and Gulf Shores, Alabama are also only minutes away.
Shopping? You will find a mecca of boutiques and shops along Perdido Key Drive, and several malls within a one-half hour's drive of your villa. Tanger Mall outlets in Foley, Alabama, and Cordova Mall and University Mall in Pensacola offer literally hundreds of nationwide branded stores.
Gambling? There are daily buses which depart from Pensacola (there is a pick up only a mile away) and will take you over to Biloxi, Mississippi for the day to get your chance at Blackjack, Poker, or one-arm bandits! You may end up winning the big one!
A "snow bird"? Daytime temperatures stay well into the 70's into December, dip to the 60's by the end of the year, dip into the 50's during January and February, and climb back to the 70's by March. It has been said it snows here once or twice a decade, but I have not seen it yet! The surrounding ocean keeps Perdido Key above freezing in all but the most extreme national weather conditions. There are steep snowbird discounts at most nearby restaurants, golf courses, and shops during the off season.
The Purple Parrot Island Village is truly one of the area's undiscovered gems, and is one of the most affordable family vacations to be found in the area. There are winter, fall/spring, and summer rate schedules including day, week, and month programs. Come and enjoy an area and a location which is as close to paradise as you can find in the USA!
How to get here? The closest airport to Perdido Key is Pensacola Regional Airport (Airport Code PNS) about 20 miles away, and is serviced by several national carriers. Mobile Airport in Alabama is to the west, about 70 miles away. If you are driving, you will want to take Interstate 10 to Exit 7A.
