Once an ancient family wine production factory, today renovated as Etnalodge in Mount Etna Nature Park at the foothills of Europe’s largest active volcano.
Enjoy in a splendid Mediterranean area far away from civilization the warm hospitality of the Barons Coffari di Gilferraro, last descendants of one of the oldest Sicilian feudal families, in what was an ancient family wine production factory, now renovated as a lodge in Mount Etna Nature Park at the foothills of Europe’s largest active volcano. The volcano is presently active with an eruption splendid to see and far enough to feel and be safe!
Your relaxed hosts are a Viking Ballet Dancer and a Sicilian Chemistry Professor now specialized in preserves.
We communicate in Danish, English, French, Italian and with our hands.
Having no neighbors you can enjoy the calm and peace the place offers, day and night.
The ancient wine producing estate (Palmento) has been renovated for your comfort, but kept in style for your eyes. It features
the 19th century South Wing now a comfortable suite for 2 guests
the 17th century North Wing double rooms with private bathrooms
the Foyer for guests only, a deck, a solarium, a fruit park and much more.
The Palmento is in the deep rural country (sheep and all the rest) in the protected area of Mount Etna Nature Park, at the foothills of Europe's largest active volcano. The view is just "too much" to be described: stretching from the coast of Calabria, to Taormina and to the seaport Riposto, and to Mount Etna.
It rises on top of a 3-acre fruit park with trees bearing organic fruit all year round ripening on the naturally fertilized volcanic soil.
Thanks to its unique geographical position between the Mediterranean Sea exposed foothills and the very often snow capped Mount Etna our surrounding is blessed by the best microclimate: sun, warmth and heat by day…up to top-less levels in winter (forget about Jan/Feb), fresh to cold by night even in summer from sunset to sunrise because of the inversion of the Mediterranean Sea breeze.
The Palmento temperature is stable as a result of the thickness of the medieval stone walls and can be adjusted accordingly…by opening and closing the windows at the appropriate hours of the day. The fireplace is there more for cosines than for an actual need...except in the coldest winter months. Central gas heating is just a switch away.
At midseason you can choose snow or sunbathing and swimming, or both, in the morning and afternoon.
