RAINFOREST COTTAGES: TOLEDO – FROM RIDGE TO REEF

Property Description

Intentionally small and decidedly quiet, with three rooms and a bar-restaurant in Caribbean-style buildings nestled in a jungle setting. Our location provides great access for the reef, offshore cayes, and Toledo’s many inland attractions.

Property Details

"Three beautiful cottages about a mile from PG Town, owned by a nice Brit couple -- delightful setting."
Lan Sluder, Belize First Magazine

Wake up to the sounds of the jungle and coffee delivered to your verandah, cool off in our new "plunge pool", walk our nature trails, or take a self-guided bike tour on one of the Cottages' free bikes. Explore Boom Creek Village and take a trip on the Moho River in a traditional dug-out canoe or visit further afield on one of our range of many tours of the District...

Our rooms are simply but comfortably furnished with locally made hardwood furniture, ceiling fans, and en-suite bathroom facilities. Relax in the small sitting area, or on your verandah where you can enjoy the tropical gardens and view the wildlife, and use the Cottages' 'night-sight' for nocturnal viewing.

Our facilities include:
• Charlie’s Bar-Restaurant, serving breakfast and dinner using ingredients grown on our farm and seasonal produce from the local market
• Plunge pool – perfect for cooling off after a day’s exploring
• Small library with a selection of books (ranging from local history, to wildlife, to folklore) and gift-shop with local craft items
• Free internet access
• Laundry facilities (24 hour service)
• A mile and a half of jungle trails for birdwatching and wildlife spotting – we are often visited by a troop of howler monkeys
• Free use of bikes to explore the local area
• Free visit to Fallen Stones Butterfly Farm for guests staying on a Wednesday or Saturday

We are on-hand to arrange any number of tours for you to explore the Toledo District. Off the beaten track activities include jungle hiking and exploring ancient Maya sites, cave swimming and waterfalls, cultural exchanges in the traditional Maya villages, and the cacao trail to the local cocoa farms which supply the cocoa for Green & Black’s Maya Gold chocolate.

For water-babies, Toledo’s river and coastline offers great kayaking trips, while the Port Honduras Marine Reserve has numerous mangrove islands, coral cayes, great snorkelling, and rich fly-fishing grounds (catch and relase). Further offshore, the World Heritage Site Sapodilla Cayes entice you with their diving opportunities, or simply a picture postcard beach! Tours are arranged through local tour operators, who use only local registered tour guides.

Cacao - or cocoa as many of us know it - has played a dominant role from ancient times, when the Maya first discovered the 'magical' process that transformed cacao into chocolate, right through to the modern day.

The Toledo District of Belize is home to the organic cacao orchards where the pods are grown and harvested, and later processed into the world-renowned Maya Gold chocolate, itself based on the ancient Maya 'kukuh' drink, flavoured with spices and sweetened with rainforest honey.

Come and join us for a family weekend celebration of chocolate, and the unique flavours of our District! From our wine and chocolate evening to the Taste of Toledo cookery and craft fair, cacao for kids activities, Sea Toledo marine trips, the Cacao Trail, and our Culture in Harmony musical performances there's fun for the whole family the entire weekend.

Toledo, southern Belize - the birthplace of chocolate!
