The Maltese Islands: Recommended Restaurants

by Brent Kleinheksel on July 29, 2011

A drawback of hotel life is the temptation to use room service or patronize the hotel restaurant over and over. Maltese Island vacation homes provide tourists with a more well-rounded experience of Malta and the surrounding islands because visitors staying in holiday rentals are more likely to try a variety of local food in the many restaurants available on the islands. The Maltese Islands are not far from continental Europe, a fact that is reflected in the varied local cuisine.

Del Capo

This restaurant, located in the town of Slierna, makes fresh fish its signature specialty, but also features Sicilian pasta and meat dishes. Recommended plates include the seafood starter for two, which includes a variety of fish and shellfish that live in Maltese waters. A recommended entrée is the veal in porcini mushroom sauce. The restaurant offers a lunch buffet on most days, which can be convenient for tourists who are in a hurry to get to their next attraction. Fixed price menus and a la carte items are also available.

Al Molo

Another Italian option is Al Molo, located at the Portomaso Marina in St. Julian’s, which also serves Mediterranean dishes. Specialties here include fresh pasta lunches served with wine; lunch is served from noon until 4pm. Although service here is excellent and meals arrive without delay, tourists dining at Al Molo may wish to take their time to enjoy the relaxing ambiance.

Both Del Capo and Al Molo are located on the island of Malta.
