San Francisco is an ideal city to visit for those who prefer to stay in long-term vacation homes during their extended vacation. With so many attractions and activities available, visitors may want to stay in the city for several weeks.
The city is a treasure trove of famous attractions, reflecting some of the most interesting moments in American history. Tourists can climb to the top of “Hippie Hill” in Golden Gate Park and tour the Haight-Ashbury district, both key locations during 1967’s “Summer of Love.” The bay features a World War II submarine that is open to the public, the island prison of Alcatraz, and a functioning fish market at Fisherman’s Wharf.
Visitors interested in science as well as history can see the San Andreas Fault and observe evidence of the famous 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Another popular option is to tour the recently renovated California Academy of Sciences, which features not just skeletons and dioramas, but also an indoor rainforest, a planetarium, and a rooftop covered in plants to provide insulation.
Summer days in San Francisco are typically warm and sunny, making the many beaches dotting the coastline seem irresistible. Popular activities other than swimming and sailing include flying kites or watching the seals and sea lions that inhabit this part of the coast. A walk across the Golden Gate Bridge is another popular tourist activity. Visitors are advised to bring a sweater, however, since the ocean fog can roll in at any time, often bringing with it some cool air.
