The small Balkan country of Montenegro is one of the newest independent nations in the world. Famed as much for its beaches as for its unique national cuisine, this country attracts tourists from around the world who stay in vacation rentals in Montenegro to enjoy the best the Balkans have to offer.
Montenegro Beaches
The coastline of Montenegro includes over a hundred beaches along the Adriatic Sea. Almost half of these are sandy beaches. The seaside here is among the sunniest and warmest in all of Europe, making it an ideal holiday getaway for those who like to laze around on the sand or go sailing along a coastline that features ancient fortifications as well as modern construction.
Montenegro’s largest sandy beach is Velika Plaza, located in Ulcini, but other popular beach destinations include Beach Sveti Toma in Budva, Plavi horizonti in Tivat, and Cuba Libre in Herceg Novi.
Cuisine
Food in Montenegro shows a great deal of influence from Italy, which is located a short distance across the Adriatic. Italian influences are evident in the cured meats as well as in varieties of cheese and wine. A classic Montenegro dish is a cold antipasto that features smoked salami and Prosciutto, but also includes dried mutton and cheese such as Njegusi and Pljevlja, which are typical of Montenegro. The most important meal of the day is lunch, which usually consists of soup or stew served with bread. Another staple of the diet is seafood, particularly squid, tuna, prawns, octopus, and carp. Lamb is also served on a frequent basis; the most common preparation involved cooking it in milk.
