Watermouth Cove Cottages, Watermouth, North Devon

The eight pretty cottages are set in tranquil grounds in a secluded valley adjacent to 150-year old Watermouth Castle just 200 yards from the sea. They are located half way between Combe Martin and Ilfracombe on the North Devon coast.

They comprise the former coach house and stables of the castle, enclosed in their own courtyard, with a beautiful garden at the rear. Watermouth Cove Cottages provide self-contained, comfortable and well-equipped self-catering holiday homes.
The cottages all feature full cooking facilities with ample crockery, fridge [Smugglers Cove has a fridge/freezer] and immensely labour-saving microwaves and dishwashers. There is a laundry room on site with free use of washing machine and 50p for tumble dryer, and a public payphone. Each cottage has a colour television/dvd in the lounge.

The cottages offer accommodation from two up to eight people. Large groups of up to 40 people can be accommodated, ideal for that family reunion or for special events.

For animal lovers, the garden at Watermouth Cove Cottages is visited by foxes, rabbits, woodpeckers and jays, together with hundreds of garden birds. Badgers have also been seen late at night. The nearby lake has a multitude of ducks which visit the cottages regularly. Well behaved pets are welcome at Watermouth Cove Cottages and the area is rich in footpaths and trails.

Combe Martin: Extraordinarily long village, ribboning down a valley to the sea on the western edge of Exmoor. Small mainly pebble/rock-pool beach. Shops, pubs (including bizarre and famous Pack of Cards Inn), & a fine church.

Wildlife park close by. Exceptionally beautiful 10 mile cliff/cove coast walk (path) via Woody Bay to Lynton/Lynmouth .

Woolacombe's sand/surf beaches, also about 10 miles; Saunton's superb golf course and beaches and Braunton Burrows nature reserve, about 14; Ilfracombe (resort town, entertainments, boats to Lundy Island), 7½.

The seaside village of Combe Martin which provides a variety of shops, restaurants, pubs, post office, garage, pharmacy, doctors surgery, primary school and church.

Watermouth Cove is within the parish of Berrynarbor, a delightful village about 2 miles from the property, which has won "Best Kept Village in Devon" on a number of occasions. The Globe pub has good beer and pub food, food, and is under the same ownership at the Sawmill, the nearest pub to the cottages.

The coastal town of Ilfracombe is about 4/5 miles away, offering more extensive supermarket shopping plus cinema, theatre, & leisure facilities. Whilst the commercial centre for North Devon, Barnstaple, is about 8 miles to the south offering a full range of amenities including a choice of supermarkets, cinema, theatre, North Devon Regional Hospital, North Devon College and regional Tennis Centre.

There are many sporting facilities in the area including 5 golf courses within 8 miles including Ilfracombe, Barnstaple and Saunton. The property is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is surrounded by unspoilt countryside.

The rugged North Devon coastline, much of it owned and managed by the National Trust, lies just over 2 miles away at Combe Martin and provides wonderful opportunities for long distance walking along the South West Coast Path and both walking and cycling on the Tarka Trail. Inland from the property lie the open spaces of the Exmoor National Park, with its many beauty spots and opportunities for walking and riding, which is extremely popular with visitors all year round and helps to extend the letting season for the cottages.

About 9 miles to the west lies the coastal resort of Woolacombe and, further south Putsborough, Croyde and Saunton Sands, all renowned for their beaches and excellent surfing. The property is easily accessible to many popular tourist attractions including Watermouth Castle and Cove, the Royal Horticultural Society Gardens at Rosemoor, Arlington Court owned by the National Trust and such family entertainment parks as the Milky Way, Big Sheep and Exmoor Zoo, Wildlife and Dinosaur Park.
