Property Details

This delightful village house has recently been renovated to high standard, and special efforts have been invested in trying to bring out its traditional features. It is situated in the quiet village of Azillanet, close to Minerve, at the top of a narrow street, the rue du Couvent, next to the large Church square with plenty of room for parking.
Entering through double half-glazed doors, one sees a large kitchen/ dining/ living room. The kitchen is equipped with a stove, fridge and freezer, and an open fireplace with a woodburner on the side.
To the left of the kitchen is a bathroom with a washbasin, shower, W.C. and a washing machine.
To the back of the kitchen/dining area, equipped with a large dining-room table, is a lounge/ living area.
Stairs lead to the upper floor with two double bedrooms, and one large single bedroom as well as a second bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin.
Access to the single bedroom is through one of the double bedrooms.
The stairs lead up to the another floor, with a landing, off which is a twin bedroom and a private roof terrace with magnificent views over the village rooves, the Aude valley plain, the Pyréneés, and the Black Mountains. The terrace is furnished with garden furniture and a barbecue
Azillanet is a small village of 370 inhabitants including a small grocery shop,butcher,post office,excellent cave cooperative for wine and restaurants. The bread van selling baguettes and croissant stops outside the house at 8.55 every morning. Olonzac,only 4 kms away offers a wider variety of shops and has a market every Tuesday morning (and also Friday morning in the summer). The village is situated at the heart of the Minervois region renowned for its red wines. It is located where the river plain changes into a picturesque landscape of limestone gorges, hills, and vineyards. In the plain, a short distance away is the Canal du Midi. There, boats can be rented for a day ride or overnight cruises. The small Lake of Jouarres is nearby (7km), with its beach, café-restaurant and good swimming. Ten minutes up into the hills is the village of Minerve, straddling deep river gorges, with natural bridges and beautiful rockpools.

Thirty minutes away West is Carcassonne with its magnificent medieval walled-city. Going North is the city of Béziers - well known in the Summer months for its Feria, bullfights, and flower market; and towards the East Narbonne, with its Roman museum and archaeological sites, shops and restaurants. The beaches are nearby at Narbonne-Plage, Gruissan, and beyond. To the Southeast are the hills of Corbières where one can visit the beautiful abbeys at Lagrasse and Fontfroide, the mountainous castles of Quéribus and Peyrepertuse, as well as the idyllic seaside resort of Collioures. The region is well served by the International airports Carcassonne (30 minutes), Montpellier (2 hours), Toulouse (2 hours), and Barcelona (3 hours). Carcassonne and Narbonne train stations are 30 minutes away.

The rates shown below are for renting this accommodation for a one week period. The rates are payable in Euros .

Prices include water, gas, electricity, and bed linen, but do not include towels ( an extra 7 euros per person) and firewood during winter. A 25% deposit is required on booking, the balance being payable 6 weeks before arrival. There is a 110 Euros refundable deposit against breakages, payable on arrival or with the final payment. The owner lives on the same street and will greet you on arrival to answer any questions or give additional information.
