The Elrod Villa:
Located at the historic Palm Springs Racquet Club was the playground to Hollywood’s most glamorous celebrities. Originally designed by Hal Broderick of Arthur Elrod and Associates, this masterpiece of design has been toured by The Smithsonian Institute, The L.A. Museum of Contemporary Art and featured in Architectural Digest.
The living and dining rooms set the stage for elegant entertaining with soaring ceilings, extensive use of indirect lighting, fireplace, bar, and Italian travertine flooring that extend to the outdoors. Walls of glass overlook the terrace with a luxurious tiled pool, oversized spa and dramatic panoramic views of the San Jacinto mountains.
The residence offers 2,400 square feet of living space, including two bedrooms and a spacious den (or third bedroom). Conveniently located within minutes of downtown restaurants, shopping and nightlife.
History on the Racquet Club:
It all started when Marlene Dietrich kicked Ralph Bellamy and Charlie Farrell off El Mirador Hotel's tennis courts back in 1934. The two decided to open their own tennis club, dubbed the Racquet Club, built by movie stars of movie stars. A list of famous celebrities that have graced its doorsteps reads like a who's-who list of Hollywood celebrity. Spencer Tracy, Katherin Hepburn, Rita Hayworth, Cary Grant, Elizabeth Taylor, Lana Turner, the list goes on and on. According to ledgend, Marilyn Monroe was discovered poolside here by Johnny Hyde of the William Morris Talent Agency. Even both Kennedy brothers: Jack and Bobby, have slept in the bungalows. One more bit of interesting trivia, hungover drinkers everywhere owe a big tip of the hat to the Racquet Club's restaurant, the Bamboo Room, it's the birthplace of the Bloody Mary.
Undergoing a $50 million dollar rennovation, the Racquet Club will open up next year, opening up the courts, the Bamboo Room, as well as adding a weight room, and conceirge service. Its a great place to plan your next vacation.
