This fabulous, three-bedroom, three and a half bath home is nestled on 6.14 acres in a private community in the coastal foothills of Playa Ventanas, just 32 km from Dominical in Ojochal, Costa Rica. It has incredible views of the ocean, offshore rocky islets, the Terraba River delta and entire Osa Peninsula, and lush, jungle-covered mountains.

This lovely layout is perfect for maximum appreciation of the beautiful natural environment on the South Pacific Zone. The estate is surrounded by banana trees and jungle wildlife, including howler and white-faced monkeys, toucans, parrots, sloth, lizards and butterflies. The grounds include streams and primary old growth forest. Access is gravel from a private gated road. The property is bordered by a running stream with small waterfall and swimming hole. There are safety lines leading down to the stream, which is a short 5 minute walk down from the house.

The beautifully crafted, 2,400-square-foot, furnished home features glass, wood, and stone with vaulted ceilings. The home, built in 2000, has 3 ½ bathrooms. The estate includes a 20' by 30' swimming pool.

The master bedroom suite includes a king-size bed, private bath with double vanity, tub and a shower with porthole. Guest suites have private baths with showers. One room has a queen-size bed and the other guestroom has two twin beds. Each bedroom is individually air conditioned. Brand new high thread count bedding and towels are included.

This open-concept home has a living room with ceiling-to-floor windows overlooking the ocean and the jungle. The fully equipped kitchen includes a snack bar and dining area. Right off of the kitchen are laundry facilities with washer and dryer.

The Costa Rican jungle is just steps from the door of this home. Three resident Howler monkey troops live in the immediate area and Toucans are daily visitors to the trees surrounding the house. Travel down the mountainside less than 10 minutes to the nearby pristine beaches of Playa Ventanas, Playa Tortugas, the Ballena national park and others. View the sunset poolside over the canopy of primary rainforest or experience a Ventanas beach sunset for a truly memorable experience. Enjoy the many activities, such as scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, sport fishing, mangrove tours, horseback riding , waterfalls, canopy tours, and much more. Services include garbage collection. Mid-week maid service is included in all rentals. Our English speaking caretaker lives on the mountain and is there to assist you at the beginning, during and at the end of your vacation. She will contact you prior to rental and can arrange all of your tours and other activities. She is likewise available to ensure a worry free, enjoyable vacation.

Maps and directions

Ojochal is located approximately 4 1/2 hours south of San Jose on the Pan American Highway.

From San Jose via car you travel south to San Isidro de General on the Pan American highway (3 hours), and then head west to Dominical (1 hour). From Dominical, it is less than 30 minutes south on the four lane coastal highway.

An attractive alternative is to fly Nature Air or Sansa from San Jose to the air strip at Palmar Sur. Those flights depart every morning around 930 am and it is a very scenic flight. Round trip airfare is approximately $170. From there it is a 20 minute drive to Casa de Ventanas.

Solid Rent a Car can arrange to have a 4x4 ready for you upon arrival. Advance reservations would be required.

If staying over in San Jose to fly out the next morning on Sansa or Nature Air (Sansa flies out of the same airport as your international arrival; Nature Air does not), we recommend Hotel Aeropuerto. Here are photos of the lobby and dining area. It is comfortable, inexpensive and the staff is extremely friendly. Simply get a cab from the airport. The hotel will pay the cab fare when you arrive and the next morning on your return for the Sansa flight to Palmar Sur.
