This uniquely designed house located on the Island of Araujo, is situated on a forested hillside overlooking the bay and mountains with a lovely beach at the foot of the property. Although rustically designed the house features most modern amenities including: electricity, filtered water and modern appliances. There are solar panels to reduce energy consumption with back up power for heavy usage or rainy periods. There is a housekeeper, gardener and 24-hour caretaker on site to meet your needs. Sleep to the sound of the waves gently lapping the shore and wake up to bird song. A troop of small monkeys usually put in an appearance once or twice a day. One can lie in the Jacuzzi at night and watch the stars or relax in a nice hot bath during a tropical rain. There are no roads on the island, only scenic trails through the forest with magnificent views of the bay and the national park beyond. A fishing village is located approximately 15 minutes hiking distance from the property. The village has regularly scheduled boats to the mainland village opposite the house, (a 5 to 10 minute crossing, depending on the boat). A natural harbor for sailboats and yachts is located directly below the house. A local boatman is available at any time day or night. There are no motor vehicles on the island and all garbage is removed from the island and recycled or sent to a dump on the mainland. The area has the largest remnant of the coastal Atlantic rain forest in South America with a treasure trove of biological wonders, including numerous waterfalls and a dazzling variety of birds. We recycle and compost most garbage. all garbage other than compost is transported off the island.

House Features: The house has been featured in a national arthtectural and design magazine and has won accolades from architects and designers from Brazil, Europe and the U.S. The house features three detached suites with private baths; a bedroom with a full bathroom in the main house; a large living room with bathroom that converts to a fifth bedroom if needed, (there is a sofa bed, futon and two high quality inflatable beds available if needed); two decks, a stone terrace and a Jacuzzi; an outdoor shower (for beach goers) and bathroom; a beautiful landscaped garden; stone paths; a washing machine and dryer; fully equipped modern kitchen includes a large refrigerator with a freezer compartment; central filter for all water entering the house to ensure clean water throughout the house plus an extra filter on the kitchen tap to ensure the best quality drinking water; overhead fans in suites; sound system and TV/DVD (no television reception, DVD only); solar heating for hot water with a back up electrical heater. Indirect lighting on the decks to create a relaxing ambiance and to minimize insects. A recylcing progam is in use.The house sleeps 10 to 12 people.

Additional Info: The beach is safe for children of any age. The waves are gentle and the beach is safe for wading. The bay is great for water skiing, snorkeling, wind surfing or kayaking. The fishing and diving are very good and local guides are readily available. Paraty is accessible in minutes yet one can get away from the tumult of the town by escaping to the island. The house is up the hill from the water and consequently is nearly free of mosquitoes year round. The area features surfing, camping, diving and scheduled mule rides up the Gold Trail. Paraty features excellent restaurants and entertainment including year round festivals, (the most important traditional festival takes place on Araujo island in late June). Rental Policies

50% paid in advance; the second 50% paid at time of rental plus a $500 refundable damage deposit.
