Rather than a single city or county, the phrase "Treasure Coast" refers to an entire region of Florida. The Treasure Coast area is generally regarded as containing three counties: Martin, St. Lucie, and Indian River. As far as natural geography is concerned, the Treasure Coast begins in the south at Hobe Sound and continues all the way to Vero Beach. There is a regional planning authority for the treasure Coast that has a higher-level jurisdiction than the relevant county governments.
Visitors booked into vacation rentals along the Treasure Coast of Florida have a variety of local events they can attend, with events scattered around the calendar so that most months of the year are a good time to vacation here. January, for example, begins with the Fellsmere Frog Leg Festival, an event that draws thousands of attendees who come to try frog legs prepared in a variety of ways. This event is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for sheer numbers of frog legs consumed.
Tourists who arrive in March are able to attend the Oaks Fine Arts and Crafts Festival, which is held in Vero Beach's lovely Riverside Park. Well named, the festival takes place under the stands of live oaks in the park and lasts an entire three days, with over 200 artists in attendance in a typical year.
Come September, tourists to the Treasure Coast region can enjoy the Grant BBQ Fest held in the local city of Grant. More than an eating event, this is also a cook off, with competitions in several categories of barbecue cuisine including pork ribs, beef brisket, and chicken.
