Topanga: Wild Country Near Los Angeles

Topanga is a small community located near the western edge of Los Angeles County. L.A. is often regarded as being the ultimate urban environment in California but the outer reaches of the county of the same name are surprisingly rural. Topanga is situated in the Santa Monica Mountains and is often referred to as 'Topanga Canyon' since that is one of the main geographical features in the local area. Topanga's borders on three sides consist of either nature conservancy or state park lands, which guarantees that it will continue to have a wild feel for generations to come.

However, visitors staying in vacation homes in Topanga have equally easy access to city resources because both Pacific Palisades and Malibu are located nearby. Still, one of the favorite activities of visitors here is hiking along mountain trails; mountain biking for recreation is also very popular, as is dirt bike racing. Motorcycle riding is ideal in Topanga because the winding roads provide challenges and exhilaration.

Topanga State Park

Topanga is characterized by thick flora that grows along steep terrain. Topanga State Park was established to preserve the local habitat, which is generally classed as a California coastal region featuring sage and chaparral. The park also contains considerable oak woodland habitat and is a delight to hike because of its many streams and waterfalls, along with trails that give hikers stunning views out over the Pacific Ocean. Birdwatchers and rock climbers also frequent the park.
