Brockway is a small community located in Placer County, California. It sits along the northern shore of Lake Tahoe, right at the area known as Stateline because it represents the political division between the neighboring states of Nevada and California. Nestled in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada range, Brockway lies about 6,000 feet of elevation and is named after Nathaniel Brockway, who was related to the first postmaster of the town. However, the local post office ceased operations in the 1960s because by then it made more sense for the Lake Tahoe postal service to extend service to the town.
One of the wonderful things about vacation rentals in Brockway is the juxtaposition of hot springs and the cool waters of Lake Tahoe itself. In Brockway, these two are side by side, with hot springs being located right along the shoreline of the lake.
Another site of interest is the 'grain grinding holes' that can be seen in boulders that border the lake.
Brockway is a great place for train buffs to visit since an old spur railway once existed here and the route of this railroad can now be traced by bicycle along a pathway that largely follows the Truckee River. Indeed, the town itself is highly associated with the Trans-Continental Railroad built during the 1800s since it was one of the early settlements resulting from the completion of this railroad. At the Brockway Pier, steamships once took road passengers to other destinations along Lake Tahoe.
