St. Petersburg, Florida Features a Variety of Museums

St. Petersburg is a large city located in Pinellas County in Florida. With almost 250,000 permanent residents, it is a metropolitan area with many tourists amenities enjoyed by people who travel to Florida in order to enjoy vacation rentals in St. Petersburg. Located midway down the Gulf Coast, St. Petersburg is the fourth largest city in Florida and actually holds the distinction of being the largest city that does not host the government offices for the county in which it is located.



Called St. Pete by locals, the city is remarkable for its weather, even by Florida standards, because it receives about 360 days of sunshine annually. This has caused it to also be known as "the Sunshine City, which has made it a large draw for vacationers eager to enjoy the best that the Gulf Coast of Florida has to offer.



Museums in St. Petersburg



St. Petersburg is host to an eclectic assortment of museums one devoted to fine arts and another that focuses on local history. It is in the area of specialty museums, however, that the city truly shines. There is a Holocaust Museum as well as the Salvador Dali Museum, site of the largest collection of the artist's work not located in Europe. Notable works represented by Dali here include the large-format painting known as The Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. Families with children should also be sure to visit Great Explorations, the local children's museum.
