One of the wonderful things about vacation rentals in Tahoe is that they are ideal for those who would like a centrally located holiday home that will allow them to explore both Northern California and Nevada at their leisure. From the Tahoe area, tourists can easily reach the capital of California, Sacramento, and are equally able to travel east to Carson City, the capital of Nevada, as well as Reno, the gambling capital of the northern half of that state.
Gambling is also available in the Tahoe basin itself because the city that people think of as Tahoe is actually two cities: South Lake Tahoe, located in California, and Tahoe City, which features a wealth of high-rise and upscale casinos. These venues offer many of the amenities commonly associated with the larger Nevada cities of Reno and Las Vegas, including top name entertainers, musicians, and comedians as well as fabulous buffet dinners and high-end restaurants.
Outdoor activities are also popular in Tahoe. The lake itself is located at an elevation over 6,000 feet, which means that it is the single largest lake in North America to be located in the alpine forest zone. In addition, the depth of Lake Tahoe is an astounding 1,645 feet. This makes it the second deepest lake in the entire nation. Water skiing, fishing, and swimming are popular summertime activities in Tahoe while downhill and cross-country snow skiing are popular wintertime sports.
