The Hollywood community of Los Feliz, also called Los Felez and Rancho Los Feliz, is a hillside neighborhood, named after the Spanish land grantee Jose Vicente Feliz, located a little to the south of the Santa Monica Mountains. Several noteworthy tourist attractions are accessible to visitors staying in Los Felez holiday rentals. Among these are the Griffith Observatory and the Greek Theatre, which plays host to a variety of top-name musical acts throughout the year.
The Griffith Observatory
At the Griffith Observatory, guests can watch a gigantic pendulum in action and see how its motion demonstrates the rotation of the earth. Another fun activity in the foyer is a series of scales calibrated to show tourists what their weight would be on different planets in the solar system. The hallmark attraction of the observatory, however, is the planetarium, which puts on a regular round of shows designed to entertain and educate visitors about the universe and the solar system. At designated times the planetarium is also used for laser light shows that have a pure entertainment focus.
The Griffith Park Area
In addition to the observatory, Griffith Park is home to the Los Angeles Zoo where parents and children can see a variety of animals in native-like settings. There are also two golf courses with 18 holes each and a charming area known as 'Traveltown' where a miniature railroad is in operation.
