For many Americans, the slogan "Land o' Lakes" makes them think of their favorite brand of butter. Those same words, however, also refer to a popular vacation destination in the state of Florida. Located in Pasco County along the central Gulf Coast, Land o' Lakes is near the large cities of Tampa and St. Petersburg but is itself a smaller sized city with about 20,000 permanent inhabitants. The name Land o'Lakes was adopted shortly after the end of World War II.
Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Parks
One of the attractions near Land O' Lakes holiday homes is the Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park. Situated at the far western edge of Pasco County, the park is along the Gulf Coast and features a spring that appears small at first glance, but is actually more than 300 feet deep. This salt spring and the surrounding marshes provide a habitat for a number of species native to central Florida such as the gray fox, gopher tortoise, American alligator, and West Indian manatee.
The park is also a popular attraction for bird watchers, who come here to enjoy the sight of wading birds, shore birds, songbirds during their migrations, and birds of prey such as raptors.
Visitor amenities at the park include a hiking trail of a length and difficulty appropriate for beginners, a picnic pavilion with tables, and an information kiosk. Plans are currently underway to improve recreational facilities at the park even more. Access to the park is available from US 19.
