The town of Agde
Posted by Hélène Carcenac on Thursday, October 04, 2007
The medieval town of Agde is located on the river Herault, minutes to the Mediterranean sea. There are miles of sandy beaches, limitless sunshine and fishing boats still moor at the quays of this colourful port, second oldest town of France. A maze of picturesque streets full of shops, restaurants, cafe/bars and a busy Thursday market. 5 mins from the beautiful beaches, golf and the vibrant resort town of Cap d’Agde, which flies two EU blue flags for the quality of its beaches and environment. 2 min walk to the Canal du Midi and the train station. Nearby is the nature reserve of Bagnas and the beautiful lake ‘Etang de Thau’ with oyster and mussel beds and rose-pink flamingos, also a wonderful place for boating and wind-surfing. Low fare flights by Ryanair to Montpellier, Carcassonne, Perpignan, Nimes and the new airport Beziers - Agde only 10 km away. Agde is also on the direct Eurostar line from London (Waterloo)
