Campagnatico

Founded in ancient days, on a hill, Campagnatico dominates the valley of the river Ombrone. Across slopes of olives and vineyards, you can catch a glimpse of the sea between the shores of the park of Uccellina. The village, inside the imposing walls, is a typical example of medieval fortress, with narrow paving-stone streets, bold arches, loop-hole for the archers, high towers and belfry which overlook red tiled roofs and strongholds. Many of the mansions and churches are decorated with fresco figuring saints and scenes of every day life, recently restored to witness the important role of this Aldobrandesca’s fortress, quoted by Dante Alighieri in the Divina Commedia in the late Middle Ages. It will be difficult to forget, even after a short stay, the flavours, sounds, colours of this land in Tuscany: strong, silent, lively, where sometimes, as by magic, you can’t make out if the sun at the horizon is at dawn or dusk.
