Dillon Beach: A Small Coastal Community

Located right along the coastline of Northern California, Dillon Beach is a tiny community is Marin County. Fewer than 300 people live in the town on a full-time basis, which means that holiday homes in Dillon Beach provide a peaceful, quiet ambiance that can be just what is needed to help tourists relax and enjoy their time away from the usual pressures of home and work.

Dillon Beach has an elevation of nearly 90 feet, making the vast majority of the town quite close to sea level. If you travel just three miles east, you can reach the town of Tomales, which is even smaller than Dillon Beach is. Dillon Beach derives its name from George Dillon, who settled the area in the 1850s and founded the original settlement.

The main attraction in Dillon Beach is the shoreline itself. Since it is located in Northern California, swimming is most appropriate in the summer months, but the beach itself is lovely at all times of the year. The beach access area is almost two full miles long, making it a wonderful place to stroll in the sand and dip your toes in the water, and according to locals, large tides every six hours means that access points change frequently.

Although Dillon is small, rustic, and rather isolated, there are many tourist amenities located within a 30-minute drive. These include the wineries of Marin County, many of which provide free tours and wine tasting opportunities, as well as restaurants in towns such as Point Reyes and Inverness.
