About the quaint island of Grand Turk
Posted by Leslie Janes on Friday, February 09, 2007
The Turks and Caicos Island are British governed islands located about 575 miles south of Florida. The average temperature is a warm 83 degrees. Grand Turk and Salt Cay are separated from the Caicos chain by the Columbus Passage. Grand Turk is the capitol of the Turks and Caicos Islands and is the government seat. The island’s quaint streets are lined with antique mansions from the colonial era creating it's charming “Old World” flavor. Adding to its allure is the fact that there are no huge high rises or fast food restaurants. The 7 square mile island is ringed by healthy coral reefs and the abundant marine life that inhabit them. Scuba diving in and around the pristine reefs is “world class”, earning many awards from the diving community world wide. Grand Turk is one of the safest islands in the Caribbean. Although Grand Turk is a British governed island its local currency is the US Dollar. The people are warm and friendly and very proud of their island.
