Located in the southern range of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, Sequoia National Park covers more than 400,000 acres of land that is preserved for the enjoyment of generations yet to come. The park was first established in the late 1800s and is best known for the presence of giant sequoia trees including the largest living tree anywhere on earth: the General Sherman. The grove where this tree lives is known as the Giant Forest for its distinction of containing five of the ten biggest trees in the world.
Tourists staying in holiday rentals in Sequoia NP often take advantage of the back-to-nature activities available in the park; these include hiking, fishing, camping, and backpacking. One of the most well loved hiking trails in the park is the Sherman Tree Trail. Less than a mile long, this nature walk is easily accomplished even by those who are unaccustomed to long hikes. The fully paved trail takes visitors on a stroll from a parking area to the General Sherman. Along the way, visitors can see many other examples of giant sequoias.
Another popular attraction is Morro Rock, which is a granite dome in the approximate center of the park. In the 1930s, a stairway made up of 400 steps was carved by workers in President Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corps, making a hike to the summit of the rock a fairly easy climb. Even those with no rock-climbing experience can reach the summit to enjoy the wonderful view from the top.
