Orange County, California is located adjacent to Los Angeles County and actually forms part of the enormous metropolitan area that most Americans think of as 'Los Angeles'. In reality, the area often termed Los Angeles by those not from California includes dozens of different cities located in both L.A. and Orange Counties.
There are approximately 3 million people living in Orange County, which makes it the third most heavily populated county in California and the sixth in the nation as a whole. This huge amalgamation of people means that tourists staying in vacation rentals in Orange County will never lack for exciting things to do. To begin with, there are 40 miles of coastline to enjoy, but more than that, the county is famous throughout the country for the high quality of its amusement parks. These include among their number the original Disneyland, the relatively new Disney's California Adventure next door, and the nearby Knott's Berry Farm, which is familiar to many Americans because the company's jams and jellies are sold nationwide.
Orange County was originally called that because of the large citrus farms operating here. Walt Disney, in fact, had to clear some groves in order to construct Disneyland, and Knott's Berry Farm literally began as a farm where berries were grown to make into jam and the large amusement park with carnival rides to thrill visitors came later. These days, there are few agricultural areas left in Orange County but the area makes up for it with the exciting attractions it now possesses.
