Englewood Draws Spring Break Crowds
Englewood, Florida is a bit unusual as communities go because it is located in two different counties: Sarasota and Charlotte. Properly speaking, Englewood is not a city but rather a town that occupies unincorporated land in both counties.
Some of the attractions of Englewood include a variety of outdoor activities, pleasant weather year-round in which to enjoy them, and beaches that are relatively uncrowded for most of the year.
Englewood is known both as "Florida's Best Kept Secret" and the "Gem of the Sun Coast." Originally known as Vineland, Englewood is located on the central portion of Florida's Gulf Coast and benefits from the warm water temperatures that characterize the Gulf of Mexico during much of the year.
Fishing and Golf Opportunities
Englewood is known for its excellent fishing and efforts at coastal conservation, with a local conservation society meeting on the third Thursday of each month. Both public and private golf courses exist in Englewood, with the Boca Royale Golf Country Club operating on a members-only basis and the Myakaa Pines Golf Club open to the public. Both are located on Englewood Road. The Oyster Creek Gold Country Club on San Casa Drive is also a public course.
Englewood Beach
The most commercially developed beach in the local area, Englewood Beach attracts many university students during the annual Spring Break celebrations. Some of them take advantage of the chance to stay in Englewood holiday homes close to the shore. Beach amenities include picnic tables and showers as well as restrooms.
