South Haven Vacation Rentals and Cottages
Posted on Saturday, February 16, 2008
South Haven is a neat area. They have an incredible Lake Michigan beach with cottages that back right up to it. In the summer it is a very popular hangout for the folks from Chicago. Clementine's is a very popular restaurant / bar close to the beach.
The downtown is ok, most will agree that it doesn't really compare to other cities like Holland, Saugatuck or Grand Haven. It's a little more dated, the shops more trinkity, as opposed to the boutique shops of downtown Holland and the art galleries, etc.. of Saugatuck.
South Haven has some great Lake Michigan Salmon fishing though. There are a ton of charters offering 4-6 hour trips for $400 to $600 which usually includes cleaning and bagging of the fish. Don't forget to tip the Captain and First Mates!
South Haven does offer quite a few vacation rentals, cottages, B&Bs and hotels. The great thing is that many of them are right on Lake Michigan or at least very close to the beach. I always thought that there are elements of South Haven which remind me of San Diego. It's laid back, theirhomes can be right on the beach, there is a boardwalk...it's just an easy way to enjoy Lake Michigan!
