Come get away from it all. A treasured private island hideaway for rent. Loon Island is located in Lake Bonaparte, NY in the foothills of the Adirondacks. Secluded and rustic camps are located on a 3-acre island owned by our family for over 75 years.
Loon Island is connected by a strip of beach to the North shore of Lake Bonaparte. The rustic but electrified 3 acre compound is centered around the hunting camp my great grandfather started in the 1920's. My great grandfather built a second, smaller cottage when grandchildren crowded the main camp. Nowadays, there is also a little cedar sleeping cabin (Log Cabin) and a former ice house converted to a sleeping cabin called the "Nice House". Park on the mainland and walk a hundred yards up to your headquarters, carrying all food and personal items, including towels and bed linens, but not the kitchen and bathroom essentials. No smoking and fireworks anywhere on the island.Lake Bonaparte (at one time the domain of Napolean's brother Joseph, who had lost his kingship of Spain) is a clear, clean lake, low in acid and rich in plant, insect and fish life. From Loon Island you can wade right in from our private sand beach. If you would rather catch fish than join them, you will be most successful in the cooler weather.
