Unlike the Smokies, you'll not have to endure traffic jams nor jostle with other hikers. This is true wilderness.
Nearby you can visit Pickett State Park, Sergeant York's home, Dale Hollow Lake and Historic Rugby.

Bring your horses to our stables with 26 all wood 10'*12' stalls.

WILDWOOD LODGE -THE BED AND BREAKFAST
Set in rolling, wooded grounds, with wild flower trails and extensive decks and areas for your relaxation, Wildwood Lodge will offer you a warm, friendly welcome. Wildwood Lodge is not a typical bed and breakfast. You don't need to go through our home to access your bedroom, which means you can get up or go to bed when you want to, without disturbing the household. The Lodge is non-smoking, but if you smoke, you can always sit out under the parasols or on the decks.

We have 10 guest rooms, each with private bathrooms, heating and air conditioning. All rooms have a TV and a VCR - you can borrow films from our extensive video library. The rooms are all different - some with king size beds, others with 2 separate beds. Rooms are normally rented to two people as we are on a well and septic system.

The upper floor rooms are comfortable, decorated "country style" with lots of natural pine and hand made quilts. You access them from the outdoor staircase or through the sitting room.
Four of the ground floor rooms have a window door through to the upper deck with lovely views of the moss lawn and woodlands. They have all been completely revamped this winter - painting, wood finishing, staining, additional storage space for your clothes and baggage, with lots of fabric to give you a feeling of cozy luxury.

At breakfast time, you join us in our home, which is part of the Lodge for a full cooked breakfast. Be prepared to be pampered - there's no doubt you will start your day well fed and in good humor.

At the back of the Lodge, you will find the Guests' Deck. In the summer, there's comfortable seating, hammocks and an incredible display of lush greenery and flowers. Always in the shade, this deck is the ideal location for reading a good book or observing wildlife, particularly hummingbirds and squirrels.
There's a sun deck that overlooks the perennial garden, at a height that usually affords a breeze to make sunbathing on the loungers pleasurable. This deck offers a truly unbeatable view of the evening sunset.

In our guests' sitting room, you can curl up with a good book on one of the comfy sofas or simply gaze into the flames of our large fire. The library is stocked with loads of novels and reference books with an accent on nature and points of local interest. For the more competitive, there are cards, Monopoly, Scrabble and many other parlor games. Satellite TV is available - dependent upon other guests' wishes. Or ... simply enjoy each other's company.

WILDWOOD CABINS
Pets and children are welcomed in the cabins.

MAPLE, HICKORY AND WALNUT CABINS
When we decided to build the cabins, we thought hard about what you are looking for when you go away. We have built them behind the old barn, far from the madding crowd, in the shelter of the trees, close to the stables, with beautiful views of the lower pasture and woods.

They are decorated country with an emphasis on wood and hand crafts. We've had fun collecting lovely examples of cross stitch, needle work and tapestries and have made a few ourselves. The beds have hand knitted quilts.

From our experience and talking with customers, we have chosen simple, fun, cooking facilities - we know that you ladies are pleased to get away from the kitchen and most of you men are designated, even willing, grillers! To fully enjoy the beauty and serenity (well, except for the birds, cicadas, etc.) of the country, we have put your dining table on a completely covered, screened-in deck, situated on the cooler side of the cabin, looking out on to the woodland. With Tennessee weather, you will rarely want to eat indoors - even when it's raining, it's so cozy on the decks. The mowed paddock in front of the decks is regularly visited by deer, turkeys and rabbits.

We also know that when you all come back from a strenuous day outdoors, it is no fun waiting for the bathroom - be it the shower or the toilet - so with the exception of one, each bedroom has its private bathroom. Your bedrooms are not next door to each other, so even if you are a sharing a cabin, you have real privacy.

Each cabin has a heating and cooling system in the lounge, powerful enough to cool the bedrooms as well. All bedrooms, lounges and decks have ceiling fans. Each cabin has a TV and VCR so you can watch films from our large video library.

All the cabins are wheelchair accessible and all the doors are 36" wide.
Hickory and Maple - the double cabin
Hickory sleeps four with a lounge, a kitchen area and two bedrooms, each with their private bathroom with hanging space for your clothes.

Maple sleeps six and has the same layout as Hickory but with an additional bedroom. The bathroom that is shared is sandwiched between the two bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own hanging space.

Hickory and Maple share a large covered, screened-in deck so 10 people can easily gather and eat together. Relax with a cool drink whilst keeping an eye on what's cooking on the grill.
The cabins are rented as separate units.

Walnut - the single cabin
Walnut cabin sleeps four and has a kitchen, separate lounge, two bedrooms each with private bathroom and hanging space. It has a lovely covered, screened-in deck open on two sides.

Kitchen equipment
All the cabins have a large microwave, full sized griddle and fridge/freezer, coffeepot and toaster indoors. So you can make breakfast, cook simple meals or warm up take away food. The lounges in Maple and Hickory have tray tables for eating indoors.
On the deck, there is a full-sized grill with a side burner, a hot plate, pots, pans and a pizza plate, your dining table and seating. There is a rotisserie and toaster grill available to any guest in Walnut's crawl space (door at the back of the cabin).

Laundry
A washer and dryer is available in the crawl space of Walnut cabin.

ACORN COTTAGE
Acorn Cottage is a 1200 sq. ft. rustic delight with above average facilities. We built this with loving care - actually it's an old-time store dating from the 1940's that we gutted and refitted in 1995 - we intend it to be our own retreat one day!

It's less than a quarter of a mile by road from the Lodge, or ten minutes rambling across the grounds on the wildflower trails - here you can take breakfast each morning of your stay. Acorn Cottage is located on Highway 297, heading towards the river gorge in Big South Fork National Recreational Park.

The cottage has two bedrooms, with built-in closets. There's a very large living room - equipped with satellite TV, VCR, radio/cassette and CD player and a rollaway bed - with two French doors onto the wraparound deck. The kitchen is fully operational, offering stove, refrigerator/freezer, microwave oven, coffee, iced-tea, espresso machines and an electric blender - you can comfortably cook and serve dinner for six.

It has a larger than average bathroom with a tub/shower with twin heads. There's a washer and dryer, airing cupboard, iron and ironing board.

Overall decor is decidedly cozy country: lots and lots of wood, on walls, floors and ceilings - many textures, all natural There's a gas log fire in the living room, oil lamps for emergencies or romance, hand-stitched quilts on the beds, good books and magazines to curl up with, parlor games, good movies and a collection of 1960 hit tapes.

There's a gas grill on the deck along with a picnic table.

A well-stocked fishing pond is adjacent to the cottage, which you are more than welcome to fish during your stay.

For stays of 2 months or more, there is a possibility to hook up to telephone.

We want you to enjoy your stay and will do our best to make your visit a memorable one.
