Seabring: Home to an American Le Mans Race

A great many vacation communities in Florida are located along one of the two great coastlines: the Gulf or the Atlantic, but Sebring is different. A small city in Highlands County, Sebring is located entirely inland and is situated in the approximate center of Southern Florida. The county seat, Seabring can boast some 10,000 permanent residents along with a wide variety of holiday homes in Sebring.



One of the great draws to this area of Florida is the racing scene. The Sebring International Raceway is here, located on a former military installation. Since 1950, however, it has been hosting first-tier races such as the Formula One competition and the U.S. Grand Prix. At the current time, this raceway sponsors the "12 Hours of Sebring" competition each year, a race that is part of the American Le Mans series.



Mechanized entertainment such as racing is far from all that Sebring has to offer. Highlands Hammock State Park, located nearby, features an elevated boardwalk so that tourists can keep their feet clean and dry as they wander through marshlands that contain not just old-growth trees such as the bald cypress, but also native plants including orchids, ferns, and cabbage palmettos. Some trees here are estimated be more than a millennium old, with one such tree believed to be the biggest oak in all of Florida, with a circumference in excess of 36 feet.



Another natural attraction is Lake Jackson, one of the major lakes in central Florida.
