The state of Florida has two full coasts lined with beach communities, but few of them are as unique as Satellite Beach, which is a city that can boast beachside frontage along both ocean and river. Located in Brevard County along the Atlantic coast of the state, Satellite Beach is home to approximately 10,000 permanent inhabitants. This makes it the largest beach city in the southern region of the county, and means that plenty of Satellite Beach vacation rentals are available for visitors who come to enjoy the beautiful surroundings in this part of Florida.
Native Florida Species in and around Satellite Beach
Those beautiful surroundings include a variety of Florida wildlife such as the loggerhead sea turtle, which uses oceanfront beaches in the city to nest, with an estimated nest of eggs occupying the shoreline at an average interval of ten feet apart. Less common, but still present, are the nests of the green sea turtle, an endangered species in Florida.
Marine mammals are also a favorite wildlife attraction in Satellite Beach, with right whales, also an endangered species, using the waters off the shoreline to bear their calves. The canals in the city provide a home to the endangered species known as the West Indian manatee.
Samsons Island Nature Park
Established by the city as a preserve to serve as a home to the relocated gopher tortoises, this nature park is located on a barrier island of the same name. Osprey nesting recovery is also underway in the nature park.
