St. Petersburg Shopping and Dining
St. Petersburg is a large Florida city located along the Gulf of Mexico. Popular with both American and foreign tourists, St. Petersburg has several museums for visitors to enjoy as well as a BayWalk shopping center that features an IMAX movie theater. Other shopping areas include Jannus Landing, located slightly south of the BayWalk, and Central Avenue, which extends to 8th Street from the Yacht Club. This last shopping area is considered more free flowing and energetic than the BayWalk.
Downtown restaurants in St. Petersburg offer specialties in Florida cuisine as well as ethnic food of several varieties. From October to May on Saturday mornings, there is a farmers' market located in the parking lot of Progress Energy Park, also called Al Lang Field, but this farmers' market is far more than a mere collection of produce stands. Instead, local artisans also attend and sell their decorative arts, making the market an arts and crafts fair as well, with local musicians also present to play their tunes and entertain the crowd.
Visitors booked into vacation homes in St. Petersburg will also enjoy the Boyd Hill Nature Park. This park is situated along the shores of Lake Maggiore and consists of nearly 250 acres set aside to preserve the native flora and fauna of the Tampa Bay region. Unlike some nature parks, this one offers more than trails; an aviary provides a home for species such as hawks, owls, and bald eagles. A perfect Saturday in St. Petersburg could well be a morning at the market, buying local produce, and then a picnic in the park that afternoon.
