Lighthouse Point is a city located at the extreme northeast corner of Broward County, Florida. As such, it forms part of the state's Atlantic coastline. The town has more than 10,000 inhabitants and was named after the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse. This lighthouse, however, is not located in the town of Lighthouse Point but rather in Hillsboro Beach, a city situated nearby. Neither is the town of Lighthouse Point closely associated with Lighthouse Point Park, a wildlife preserve that is located several counties away.
One of the reasons tourists choose vacation homes in Lighthouse Point is the proximity of the beach. A wide variety of activities are available for beachgoers, including parasailing, surfing, sunbathing, swimming, fishing, and sailing. When you have had enough of fun in the sun, try a movie: Broward County boasts more than 200 different movie screens including an IMAX theatre, all of them readily accessible from Lighthouse Point. A visit to nearby Hillsboro Beach makes a nice half-day excursion, with the lighthouse there forming one of that city's prime attractions.
Theater lovers will find much to entertain them in the Lighthouse Point area. Broward County features several small theater companies, including the Mosaic Theatre located in Plantation, the Broward Stage Door in Coral Springs, and the Promethan Theatre located in Davie. Regular seasons of plays are produced at all of these theaters, with musical productions being offered on an occasional basis.
Broward County also features more than 70 different golf courses.
