Edgewood was first established as a city in 1924. Located in Orange County, Florida, the town has fewer than 2,000 permanent residents and is part of the greater Orlando - Kissimmee area. As such, Edgewood holiday rentals function as a sort of "bedroom community," allowing tourists who wish to visit Orlando attractions to stay in a place away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Edgewood is a small town in the classic sense of the word. In addition to having relatively few inhabitants, the city itself has a geographical footprint of only 1.5 square miles, with almost 20% of that area occupied by water.
For such a small city, however, Edgewood provides excellent amenities including its own police department, although the area is also served by the county sheriff's office. One of the best times to visit Edgewood is actually in late October because the excellent police services sponsor a safe-and-fun Halloween event each year on the last day of the month. The streets are well patrolled to be sure that young pedestrians can cross streets safely and unlike in many towns, commercial establishments and vendors participate heavily in the giving out of treats to children in costumes. Trick-or-treating down Main Street is one of the joys of an Edgewood October vacation.
In October and at all other times of the year, Edgewood provides convenient access to the family of Disney amusement parks located in Orlando.
