Antique Shopping in Dade City

Dade City is the county seat of Pasco County, Florida. Although Pasco County is located along the west coast of Florida and has shoreline along the Gulf of Mexico, Dade City is located inland. It is known as "Tree City, U.S.A."

A small town, Dade City boasts fewer than 7,000 permanent residents, but is near all the amenities of big city life since it is a suburb of the Tampa - St. Petersburg area.

Florida is not the state most people think of when they remember WWII history, but interestingly enough, Dade City played a key role in the war, serving as the site of a prisoner of war camp for German soldiers who were captured in North Africa during Operation Torch. These former soldiers of Rommel's Afrika Korps were housed here for four years; the site can still be visited as it now serves as the Civic Center located in Dade City's Pyracantha Park.

Holiday rentals in Dade City are popular for antiquing as the downtown of the city is well-known for a wide variety of shops selling antique and vintage items. When done touring the antique stores, tourists can enjoy a beer at Osceola Tavern, which has been named as one of the Tampa Bay area's best 100 bars.

Dade City in Film and Literature

If Dade City sounds familiar, that might be because it is. The television show Dexter cites Dade City as the home of the main character's deceased father. In addition, the famed storyteller O Henry used Dade City as part of the setting for his tale The Hand that Riles the World.
