Hiking in Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park is located in the eastern-central portion of California and is one of the most beautiful vacation spots on earth. This in part explains the popularity of holiday homes near Yosemite National Park, which has been classed as a World Heritage Site since 1984. In all, nearly four million people make their way to the park each year, with most of them descending during spring and summer even though the park is also accessible during winter.

Attractions in the park fall into large natural categories, with some of the most popular tourist sites being the magnificent waterfalls that cascade off cliffs and mountains. The most famous of these is Yosemite falls itself, a two-stage waterfall that perfectly encapsulates the access levels to nature that are available throughout the park. The lower portion of the waterfall has a trail leading to it with a bridge from which viewers can admire the falls. From here, the upper falls is also visible, though it is far more distant. The trail is so well maintained that even the wheelchair-bound can make it to the lower falls.

The upper falls also has a trail; this one leads to the very top of the cliff where the entire waterfall originates and is a strenuous hike recommended for experienced hikers and those that are in exceptionally good physical condition. Thus, Yosemite provides ample challenges for the experienced backpacker but also easy fun for those new to the wilderness.

In addition to waterfalls, Yosemite is also noted for its giant sequoia groves where some of the largest trees on earth grow.
