Interestingly enough, there are three towns named Strawberry in California alone. The Strawberry that is located in Tuolumne County near the border with Nevada is the smallest of these towns with a population of less than a hundred people. This marks it as one of the smallest communities in the entire state, yet it has a post office of its own.
Strawberry is one of those rare towns whose elevation exceeds its population. Situated in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, Strawberry sits at an impressive 5,325 feet above sea level, which means it is above the snow line during a typical winter.
Winter Activities
Popular winter recreation includes both alpine and Nordic skiing. The Dodge Ridge Ski Resort located nearby offers both kinds of skiing. For a more casual snow play experience, adults and children alike can enjoy Leland Snow Park, which features sledding runs where visitors can use inner tubes and discs as well as traditional sleds. There are also areas in the park that provide excellent snowshoeing and snowmobiling opportunities.
Spring, Summer and Fall Opportunities
Outdoor adventures are just as popular in Strawberry during the warmer months, with swimming, water skiing, fishing, and canoeing available on Pinecrest Lake, located less than two miles away. Local flora is also a draw for tourists staying in vacation rentals in Strawberry, with aspens in particular putting on spectacular shows every fall as they change colors.
