Pinecrest: A Small Town in Tuolumne County

Pinecrest is a small town situated in Tuolumne County, which itself is located in the eastern section of California, an area that is sparsely inhabited when compared to the large cities that lie along the coastal region of the state. Pinecrest was first established in 1917 and remains a thriving, if tiny, community to this day.

The town lies quite near Pinecrest Lake; another small town nearby is Mi-Wuk Village, which has less than a thousand permanent residents. Tuolumne County

This is one of the loveliest counties in California and in fact is one of the state's original political divisions as it was first formed in 1850 when California joined the Union to become a state. Tuolumne itself is a word that derives from Native American origins. It can be rendered in several different ways, to mean for example, 'the land of mountain lions,' 'the many stone houses,' and the 'straight up steep.' The first and last of these terms indicate the mountainous nature of Tuolumne County, which features rolling meadows along the foothills of the local mountains.
