Oxnard Boasts the Unusual Combination of Beaches and Farms

Much of Ventura County, California is inland, but the city of Oxnard has an interesting horseshoe-like shape that provides visitors with two distinct stretches of beach access. Apart from these prongs, much of Oxnard is away from the shoreline. Although Oxnard is the 19th most populated city in the state, a large part of its land area is agricultural, so much so, in fact, that the city is known as the lima bean and strawberry capital of California. Nearly 200,000 people live in Oxnard.

Arts and Culture

Oxnard boasts an Andrew Carnegie library as well as the Carnegie Art Museum, which has stood here for more than a hundred years. Newspaper publishing magnate Otis Chandler has also extended philanthropy to the city, creating the Chandler Vintage Museum of Transportation and Wildlife. Another interesting cultural venue is Heritage Square, where tourists booked into vacation rentals in Oxnard can see a collection of Craftsman and Victorian houses that date from the time when pioneers to California first settled in the area.

Transportation Hubs

Oxnard is not nearly as famous as San Francisco or Los Angeles, but it might as well be considering the ease with which tourists from across the nation can reach the city. Not only does it boast its own regional airport, designated OXR, but it also has a train station where Amtrak makes regular stops. There are also stops in Oxnard for Metrolink and Greyhound services so that visitors to other major cities can reach Oxnard without needing to arrange a car rental.
