Summer and Winter Activities in Monte Rio, California

Monte Rio is a small community located in Northern California. With barely more than a thousand permanent residents and only two square miles of land area, the town provides a homespun atmosphere that appeals to many tourists who come to stay in holiday rentals in Monte Rio.

Because of the presence of a private club in the area, Monte Rio also plays host at times to high-ranking business and government officials, particularly during the summer months. While there is no guarantee that visitors will see a recognizable face in town, there is certainly a possibility. The club also provides a series of concerts in the summer that are popular with the local community.

Tourists should not confuse Monte Rio with Monterio, a town located far inland in the desert of Southern California. Monte Rio, in contrast is within easy striking distance of the coast. The proximity of the rocky coast and the presence of the many wineries in Sonoma County provide two popular tourist activities, but visitors also come to Monte Rio to enjoy local fairs and festivals.

One example is the "Holiday Wonderland Craft Fair" sponsored by the Recreation and Parks District of Monte Rio. Unlike many craft fairs that take place in small towns across the nation, this one lasts a full three days, enabling visitors plenty of time to enjoy the prospect of looking over and possibly buying homemade Christmas gifts as well as souvenirs and reminders of their time in this lovely example of small town California.
