Long Beach: Permanent Home to the Queen Mary

Long Beach is a major city in Southern California and in fact is one of the largest 50 cities in the entire United States. Known as the 'International City', Long Beach is located on the coast south of Los Angeles, which means that holiday rentals in Long Beach offer easy access to the wide beaches that characterize the coastline in this part of the state. Almost 500,000 people live in Long Beach.

Local Attractions

Long Beach has much to offer besides a variety of beach activities. Major tourist attractions in the city include the RMS Queen Mary, an ocean liner dating from 1936 whose interiors exemplify the art deco style of the age. The ship docks in Long Beach and is open to tourists; it is notable for being longer than the Titanic by some 200 feet as well as the fastest ship anywhere on earth from the time of its construction up through 1952.

Another popular attraction for visitors is the Aquarium of the Pacific, located right along the seashore. Occupying a five-acre site, the aquarium houses more than 12,000 separate animals and allows visitors to explore more than 500 species of sea life. The bulk of the collection focuses on Southern California sea life, Northern Pacific animals, and reef life of the tropical zones in the Pacific. There is also a Shark Lagoon, where small sharks can actually be petted and is sure to be a hit with children.
